The third of Kitty Snow’s books of Harris H. Stilson’s photography, Up & Down Church Hill, has just been released. Up & Down Church Hill shares images and oral histories from Church Hill, Shockoe, and Fulton.
Harris H. Stilson, Snow’s great-grandfather, was a Richmond streetcar man and avid photographer in the early 1900’s. Stilson photographed all of Richmond, with an emphasis on Jackson Ward and Carver residents performing daily tasks, as well as historic events such as the return of African-American troops from World War I.
