Bill Conkle with Friends of Jefferson Park sends word that Jefferson Park will be receiving new playground equipment the week of the May 15-20, with an estimated dismantle/install of the new equipment the week of May 22-26. This project should be finished by the second week of June.
The park will be receiving 2 new play structures, one designed for 2-5 year-old children, the other for 5-12 year-old children. The current swing set will remain.
The 2-5 year-old set is designed to look like a train and will bear the engine markings of C&O 231, buried under the park in the train tunnel collapse in 1925.

COOL!!
Hopefully they’ll keep the sand that hides all the glass shards and cigarette butts.
The Friends of Jefferson Park are pleased the park is getting new playground equipment. This is another great investment the City has made in our park and neighborhood.
You’re just grumpy cuz you’re leaving 😉
Oh we are straight trekking up here for the train!
After school play times!
A special thanks to Connie Samuels who has been a strong advocate for Jefferson Park and the children who use Jefferson Park each day.
Cati! Think a certain someone will like this?
we must go!!
Fun!!
Playgrounds that teach history are better for a prospering city than ball parks that hide history. Apologize for beating a dead horse, but it really is refreshing to see an interpretation of history that most can agree on and kids can play on!
Count us in!
This will probably just anger the spirits of the guys who got trapped down there.
How wonderful and macabre at the same time! Can’t wait!
Sounds awesome. Simon is basically in love with Avery, so…
Woot! Thanks Connie! I’ll help Kenneth police the liter bugs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Zg7F9w7JMY
Thank you Bill and Connie for getting this together!
This is awesome!! My grandson and I go to Jefferson Park all the time to play and watch trains! He’s going to love this!! Friends of Jefferson Park: Could you please train Friends of Chimborazo Park on how to be awesome and effective??
@kathleen – like any other small but high functioning civic group, it takes one or 2 people to step up and own the shit out of something. Chimbo needs its hero to step up and get loud, for sure.
@John – Yes!!! We have a couple of hero wannabes but nothing ever actually happens.
Install postponed until May 30th at least.
