A proposal to add middle grades to Franklin Military

The School Board was presented a proposal (PDF) to add the middle school grades 6-8 to Franklin Military Academy. The RTD reports that “the budget for next school year includes $25,000 to implement the program” and to defray the cost of uniforms for up to 100 students.

New VDOE report details on-time graduation rates

The Virginia Department of Education today released state-level, division-level and school-level reports that detail outcomes for students who entered the ninth-grade for the first time in 2004 and were scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2008.

Armstrong graduates 54.8% on time, RPS hits 67.5%

Statewide, 81.3% of the class of 2008 graduated on time. Armstrong High School managed to graduate 54.8% of their students on time, while Franklin Military graduated 93.8% of their students in the same time period. Citywide the on-time graduation rate is 67.5%. Check out the city-wide numbers by school. (PDF)

All neighborhood schools are fully accredited

The Virginia Department of Education released the data on the School Accreditation Status for 2008-2009 today and all of the neighborhood schools are designated as Fully Accredited. Congratulations to Chimborazo Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, George Mason Elementary, Fairfield Elementary, Woodville Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr Middle School, Armstrong High School, and Franklin Military Academy!

high school kid does something stupid

A senior at Franklin Military Academy was suspended for writing a list of classmates names into a book called “Death Note”, apparently inspired by fictional Japanese comic book of the same name “about a high school student who rids the world of evil by putting people’s names in a notebook, which leads to their deaths”.
