A Save Richmond piece on mayoral candidate Pantele linked out to the Virginia Public Access Project. VPAP is a non-profit group the makes it easy to access the public records of who has donated how much to a candidate for office.

EDI open as cooling center
Due to the excessive heat, the city has opened the East District Center @ 701 North 25th Street as a cooling center. Bottled water will be provided, but no food will be available. Pets are not permitted, with the exception of services animals. For more information, call Richmond Social Services at 646-7046.

A Union Hill resident has shared that the city has cut back on cutting the grass around Jefferson Park and that some folks are worried that this could create an unsafe environment at the park this summer.

Today at the 7th District Meeting, Seventh District Representative and Council VP Delores McQuinn announced officially that she will be running for reelection. Petitions of support are circulating the community.

Seventh District Meeting @ Mt.Carmel
Seventh District Representative and Council VP Delores McQuinn hosted a lively but sparsely attended meeting this morning at Mt.Carmel Baptist Church. Kristen Heckman and Pam Jones of Fulton Hill Properties gave an update on the proposed Oakwood Heights development, McQuinn gave updates on some upcoming events, and the community voiced concerns and shared information.

7th District Representative and City Council VP Delores McQuinn will be hosting a 7th District Community Meeting this Saturday, May 17th from 11AM–1PM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church (3200 East Broad Street). Agenda items include the Oakwood Heights Condominium Project, 7th District Community Concerns, and a 7th District Police Report update.

city accepting applications for Summer Youth Employment Program
The City of Richmond Youth and Workforce Development Division is now accepting Youth Eligibility Pre-Screening Applications for the 2008 City of Richmond Youth Academy Summer Session from May 1- May 30, 2008. The Youth Academy Summer Session will offer participants, ages 14 to 17 workforce opportunities and placement from Monday, June 30, 2008 to Friday, August 8, 2008.

Wilder threatens to cut trash pickup; 7th District meeting set for Monday
Councilwoman McQuinn will hold a Community Meeting on Monday, March 31st at 1:00PM at the East District Center to discuss a threat by Mayor Wilder to cut trash pickup if city council reduces the real estate tax rate.

West suggests consolidation of city/school services; is booted from committee
The RTD is reporting 7th District Richmond School Board representative Keith West call for a consolidation of some school system and city departments: “It makes no sense for us to be duplicating services the city already provides [...] Why do we need two accounts-payable departments when the city is doing the banking anyway?” In related news, School Board Chairman George Braxton has removed West as the board’s finance, budget and audit committee chairman calling him “a disappointment to just about everyone else on the board”.

a letter from Harry Black
Letters have been sent out to neighborhood residents from Richmond CFO Harry Black about the move by Henrico to change the mailing addresses of county residents that currently have a Richmond mailing address. The letter reads in part:
The residential address or business property to which this letter was mailed is physically located within the city of Richmond. Therefore, a change of your postal address from Richmond, VA to Henrico, VA will not change the locality to which you will remit any taxes [...].
This is confusing; why are Church Hill residents getting this letter?
