Ten Steps to Financial Success, a free seminar exploring budgeting, spending, and money management, will be offered to parents, teachers and members of the community at Fairfield Court Elementary School. Taught by Virginia Credit Union, the seminar will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 4:45PM – 6PM. A second financial education seminar will follow on January 27.

The event is part of the school’s “Financial Literacy Month,” organized by Fairfield Court Elementary School, Communities in Schools of Richmond, and Virginia Credit Union. Cherry Hedges and Rex Hodgson of Virginia Credit Union will teach the courses.

“Any sound financial advice in times such as these can be well utilized by our community,” said Quentin Brown, site coordinator for Communities in Schools.

In addition to the two sessions for adults, Virginia Credit Union will teach a 30-40 minute lesson on savings and wise spending to every class at the school during the month of January. The lessons are based on the Virginia Standards of Learning and will reach all students in the K-5 school. Virginia Credit Union will also provide financial education for teachers and staff of Fairfield Elementary School during a staff development day on Feb. 2.

As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, Virginia Credit Union is owned by its 180,000 members. With the sole purpose of helping people achieve greater success, Virginia Credit Union has made a major commitment to financial education in the community. More than 10,900 young people and adults have learned money management skills through Virginia Credit Union’s seminars, workshops, and classes in the last 18 months.
