Woo hoo! I’m excited about having a bike store in the neighborhood!
Great news… just that it will take a lot of work to do anything with this building still owned (as far as I know) by Sandra Murray. It was in pretty poor shape not long ago and needs a lot of cosmetic work done to make it look like a professional business. Yet, hopefully it will be the start of a new beginning for that block of East Marshall? Some 40+ years ago there were many like businesses up and down the street!
Eric
Great news! We need a bike shop on this side of town.
cool, i’ll definitely be stopping in.
Woohoo! I can’t wait!
That’s great! My bike could use some work.
great news.
These guys still have a loooong way to go to get this building cleaned up, remodeled, and running as a professional business. I don’t think they have done anything new since the picture was taken? I walked by yesterday to look inside and it is still completely gutted to the brick walls, concrete floors, and rafters. I know some major roof work was done a couple of years ago on it but how good is it? This building has been vacant for at least 8 years when there was some sort of guitar shop there that got broken into and ran out of business.
Eric
As much as I hate to jump on the “bash Eric” bandwagon…I have to say…Jeez Eric, give them a break and quit with the negatives!
Brett and Suzanne, I wish you nothing but the best of luck. Me and my flat bike tires will be seeing you as soon as you’re ready!
I wish them luck too and welcome the diversity of business in our community!
Just trying to be realistic here knowing the condition of the building that a band aide can’t fix to bring it up to speed. That they have a challenging task ahead of them before opening the doors and it won’t be the first or last time for these old and often long vacant buildings in Church Hill.
Eric
First thing I’ll buy is a bike that makes it through the 2 feet deep street holes, up the 1 feet side walks, together with a 110db semi horn :)
A repairshop is a great idea with the street conditions here :)
Best of Luck Brett & Suzanne! Ignore all the negativeness that I’m sure you’ll receive on this blog. Some people reading CHPN are just miserable and will always try to bring everyone else down as well.
I for one can’t wait to bring my mountain bike in for tune up in early Spring!!
How is citing “facts” being negative?
Eric
It would be totally awesome if we got a motorcycle shop in the hood too. Hummer is seriously sucking it with these gas prices.
Scooters are just too weak, but a Harley would rock. Sorry off topic–meant to write to say GOOD LUCK to new shop and welcome to the hood!

“Scooters are just too weak”? Only if you’re planning to spend all your time on the interstate (or you like street racing). My 125cc scooter will do 60 and I can park it anywhere. And I can carry stuff.
Actually, any scooter over 50cc’s IS a motorcycle - it’s just an automatic motorcycle with a step-through chassis. I’ve had a Sportster and a Victory (with a bigger motor than a stock Harley) and the scoot is much, much more fun around town!
Eric,
It’s the way you are citing those facts that appears to be negative. “Knowing condition of building, a Band-Aide can’t fix it…Still a long way to go…don’t think they’ve done anything new, etc…” While I certainly don’t want to censor you, there are more positive ways to get your message across.
Keep in mind thoug, I still got nothin’ but love your cantankerous butt!!
i can’t wait to have a bike shop right down the street. Church hill is full of cyclists and tons of us don’t have cars. Cyclus will be a major improvement to the neighborhood. Brett & Suzie are hard workers and of course it will take a lot to bring the building up to par, but i am sure their hard work will be worth it. hopefully they will have kids bikes too…i know the kids would appreciate that.
Thanks Guilty Mom for understanding. I can be over analytical at times but that is part of my personality make-up and guess why I have lasted so long at the law firm… a stickler for details even if my posts are not 100% accurate, they were written off the cuff.
Also on a sidebar note, look at the 401 N 27th Street thread which is basically across the street from these guys. My efforts to save this building I hope will pay off and things are now starting to happen quickly through the city so keep fingers crossed! Who knows what will end up opening in that building but “something” will!

Oh and Greg (aka HummerDoc), no one twisted your ar to buy a Hummer - right? And not one but two large SUV’s with only one passenger each? One if not both of you live close enough to work to even ride a bicycle to work - or take the bus on the corner! No parking problems or fees on top of the gas and note.
I can suggest considering 1.5 million other reasons why they are not practical.
Eric
Hey this is great news!
I’m there!!!
