historical architecture scavenger hunt for kids

The Historic Richmond Foundation and the Commonwealth Girl Scout Council have put together a series of scavenger hunts built around learning about and identifying historic architectural details in Church Hill, Monroe Ward, Capital Square, and along Monument Avenue.

Friday’s Armstrong at Thomas Jefferson game has been rescheduled for today @3:30PM to get ahead of Tropical Storm Hanna.

Armstrong routs TJ 52-0
Mark Robinson ran for 180 yards and scored three touchdowns, Tyree Williams made four catches for 114 yards and a touchdown, and DeAngelo Wilson and Xavier Gary each caught a touchdown pass in a 52-0 drubbing of TJ. The Wildcats (1-1) host Benedictine (2-2) next Friday.

Ronca retires, King to cover 1st Precinct until…
Nine months into the position, Commander Paul Ronca of the First Precinct has retired to take a chief of police position in Pennsylvania. Jack King, known to many from his time as the Lieutenant for Sector 111, will cover the Precinct until a decision is made, first about the Chief and then about promotions. Commander Paul Ronca made a very good impression in his time atop the Precinct and will be missed in the community.

CHAT hoping for book donations
Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT) will soon be implementing a new reading program with the aim “to get groups of kids reading and talking about the same stories, creating a communal dialogue and, hopefully, excitement about reading stories”. They have a need for 40 copies of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and 20 copies of The Fellowship of the Ring. Oakwood Heights back to CAR on Friday
On Friday, September 12, 2008, the Commission of Architectural Review (CAR) will hold two special meetings, to discuss the Oakwood Heights project located in the 3600 blocks of Broad and Marshall streets. The first meeting will begin at 2:00pm with interested members of the public. The second meeting will begin at 3:30pm with Fulton Hill Properties and their architect.
