Old House Authority offers restoration information
The RTD’s New venture can help with restoration profiles the Old House Authority, a new venture of Jennie Dotts, Walter Dotts, and Dixon Kerr that offers services and information on restoration experts and old-house renovation, and “sells products such as invisible storm windows that are historically accurate, aesthetically pleasing and energy efficient”. The Old House Authority also offers assistance to artisans and craftsmen.

Fairmount Community Meeting
About 25 people turned out Saturday morning for a community meeting sponsored by the New Vision Civic League for the south end of Fairmount. The meeting included: a discussion of the community desires for development at Nine Mile and 25th, led by Lynn Mcateer of Better Housing Coalition; Cpt.Ronca, Lt.King, and Lt.Harrison of the First Precinct fielded community concerns about drug sales and prostitution; and plans were made to move on tree planting and a neighborhood clean-up.

Villas at Oakwood update
In the past 9 months, 25 of the units in the Villas at Oakwood have sold and another 25 are under contract. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom brick condos sell for $76,900-$101,500. The 319 condo complex is across the street from Oakwood Cemetery and up the hill from the East End Landfill, at “what used to be the home of the Hilltop Apartments, a drugand violent-crime-plagued complex that closed in the late 1990s”. sponsor a piece of the Church Hill Dog Park
The folks at the Church Hill Dog Park are offering sponsorship opportunities for each of the 100+ posts and/or 8 gates that will eventually be the dog park. They are asking for $100 per post and $500 per gate. While anyone can sponsor a post, they’re looking to have only local organizations/businesses sponsor the gate. Drop’em a line if you’re interested.

man wanted in deaths of cousins
The police are looking for Jason L. Patillo as “a person of interest” in the shooting deaths of James Patillo and Alfonzo Patillo in Richmond and Hopewell early Monday morning. Reports say that he should be considered armed and dangerous and may be driving a red, 2003 Ford diesel pickup truck. [via]

a waste of manpower and focus
There are few constant complaints in certain areas around here — loitering, public drinking, prostitution, a few drug corners here and there, gun violence. I can see the prosties and dealers from my front porch or walking to school on any given day. One of the police responses to these complaints is that they only have so many guys that they can put on the street a given time. With that in mind: I got a ticket this morning on Venable for having an expired inspection sticker, and it took 2 officers to do it. THIS is the crime that they can find on Venable? I feel safer already…
