drive-by in Creighton

Around 3:30PM yesterday, two men that were not residents of the Creighton complex were shot to death in a drive-by shooting in the 2000 block of Creighton Road. [via]

Local hoarder of vacant housing Bayou Properties and its main owner Oliver Lawrence, were recently served with 175 violations on their buildings by the city. Lawrence owns an estimated 100 vacant buildings under various corporate entities, and according to owner listings on Vacant Richmond, at least 20 vacant properties in the Church Hill area.

There are two brick columns beside the road at about the 3700 block of Glenwood Avenue (right up from the “not coming in the Fall 2005 Glenwood Homes”) inscribed with “Glenwood A.F.Neumann 1929″.

All but one of the neighborhood schools make AYP

All of the neighborhood schools with the exception of Armstrong High made AYP (“Adequate Yearly Progress”) for the 2006-2007 school year. Statewide, only 70% of the schools made AYP .

The 17th Annual City-Wide Back-to-School Parade and Rally

The 17th Annual City-Wide Back-to-School Parade and Rally is this Saturday! The parade begins at 10AM at Chimborazo Park and will proceed down Broad Street to 25th Street to Fairmount Avenue to Mosby to the Richmond Coliseum.

There was a meeting tonight at the East End Library (25th and R Street) towards establishing a Library Advisory Board for the community branch library. The nascent Advisory Board is seeking representatives from local civic groups and organizations to join the board.
