Richmond Sheriff Woody announced today that a joint death investigation is underway in conjunction with the Richmond City Police Department into a death at the Richmond City Justice Center.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at approximately 2:37am, jail resident Rashad Antonio Dandridge was found unresponsive at the Richmond City Justice Center. The medical department was notified, responded and immediately rendered medical treatment, however, Mr. Dandridge was pronounced deceased.
At this time, the agency is awaiting for the results of the preliminary autopsy report from the Office of the Medical Examiner in order to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Rashad Antonio Dandridge was committed to the Richmond City Justice Center on March 1, 2016 on a Felony Probation Violation and was currently serving an active six (6) months sentence.
This is an on-going investigation and additional information will be released when available.

A friend and dear young man, Rashad Dandridge, passed away on Tuesday, June 21st in the Richmond City Jail. The cause of his death is still unknown but he died much too young, leaving a space in the community, and leaving behind his fiance Deja and two beautiful young daughters.
He grew up in Church Hill and was a part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring from approximately 2001 through 2008. Many will remember his infectious smile and laughter, why many called him Chris Rock. He had a deep care and concern for the community and will be greatly missed. Rashad did not have life insurance. We are hoping to raise funds to help cover funeral and reception costs. We’ve set a goal of $5,000. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, June 28th @ 11 AM at Carlisle Ave Baptist Church (2010 Carlisle Ave Richmond, VA 23231) to remember and celebrate Rashad’s life.
