wtvr’s Fulton neighborhood once completely destroyed, future remains to be seen is an amazing 5-minute telling of the eradication of old Fulton:
Generations of families once called the Fulton area–nestled in a valley along Richmond’s east end-home.
Gone are the stores, churches and theater. Curbstones, broken bricks and solitary fire hydrants – now sit silently in barren fields. Beginning in 1970 bulldozers started wiping the poor neighborhood clean off of the map.

thx, thats where i was born, strange they have done nothing with it yet. RT @chpn: The eradication of old Fulton http://t.co/UVq8Bw3m #rva
Channel 6 did a really nice job with this story. Too bad it’s such a sad story. It definitely leaves you with a belief that this must never happen again.
Not H&H related but a tragic chapter in #rva history from @chpn & @cbs6. An entire neighborhood literally swept away. http://t.co/ZaLNdtSS
I worked at the Millhiser Bag Factory in Fulton after being discharged from the Army in 1963 until 1965, I now live on Church Hill above the bottom. It was much like Oregon Hill but predominantly black rather than white .When I stand on the edge of Chimborazo Park and look down it makes me sad. It could have been saved. Remember that the next time the developers speak of “renewal” and “jobs”, etc.
Here’s a great link that has some old newspaper articles about Fulton. John has posted it before but posting it again wouldn’t hurt, I guess.

Does anyone know where Spencer Armstead is today?
Im currently working to raise awareness of the injustice to my generation. My family came from Fulton. Spencer is my big cousin. I’m trying to help with getting the park built. Any info anyone can provide me about the original fulton would be appreciated.
Thanks for all the Fulton pictures
But do you have pictures of the 700 block of Nicholson st
My grandma “Honey” owned the Fulton Meat Market at 720 Nicholson st, and my great grandma Queen lived at 704 Nicholson st
