Beckstoffer’s at Church Hill?

7th District Council Representative Delores McQuinn and T.K.Somanath of the Better Housing Coalition hosted a community meeting about a proposed development at the former Beckstoffer’s on 28th Street. Featuring a bold design by Urban Design Associates, BHC would like to build a mix of both attached single-family homes and condo/apartment units on the land.

The design features a mix of street-facing attached single-family houses, with parking behind and carriage-house type sheds. There would be loft-like housing units in the large historic building, and renovation of 3 houses already on the lot. Also proposed are new 2- and 3-story buildings designed to match the scale of the larger buildings on the block, with open pedestrian spaces between.

An audiance of about 35 people, skewed older and many of them from the immediate area, turned out for the presentation at Good Shepherd Baptist Church (1127 N 28th Street).

The new church is at the lower left of the photo, with 28th St running in front of it, and you can see the old stucco church across the street. You can see the hose tower of the fire station sticking up at the other end of the new stuff.
