CAR Agenda includes some local projects

The Commission of Architectural Review is having its monthly meeting on Tuesday February 26th at 330 PM at the 5th Floor Conference Room of City Hall.

Local projects include:

2230 Venable St: Revise approved plans to modify window design

2113 M Street: Reconstruct new porch

2007 Cedar Street: Construct a new, multi-family residence

2711 East Broad Street: Construct a new accessory dwelling unit

312 N 32nd St: Construct a new single-family residence

813 North 28th Street – Revise previously approved design to consider exterior details.

802 North 22nd Street – Construct a new, single-family residence

2617 East Grace Street – Convert first-floor windows into doorways, and a new second-floor enclosure.

3420 East Marshall Street – Construct a rear addition.

2901 M Street – Potential demolition and construction of attached residences.

Note: It’s a shame that the agendas haven’t consistently contained copies of the plans of these projects anymore, so not a lot of context for this besides the titles. If you are interested in covering this story and checking out these meetings, let’s talk.

The agenda may not have the plans and staff recommendations attached, but by next Thursday that should all be available on their website.

The CAR use to send them all automatically to CHPN (John Murden) so the public can see what is going on “before” the plans are approved in case there are objections.

They still do, just without the attachments sometimes. We’ll update this when we get them all.

2901 M Street is slated for demolition? I assume someone must have bought that large lot and is going to put three or four houses on it?

Am I getting this wrong?

The plans for all of the projects can be viewed on the City’s website at the following link: https://richmondva.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=668652&GUID=9B50477F-DE90-4627-B0B8-44FF1C54D463&Options=info&Search=

Staff reports will be posted at this same website on Thursday

There seems to be some dysfunction at CAR about getting the agenda and the plans out in a timely manner so citizens can weigh in on the issues. Who is running that office now? There was more transparency in that department before Stoney arrived.

#5 thank you for posting the link. @6, I don’t think it has anything to do with Stoney or lack of transparency; for at least the last several years, they[ have released the agenda first, and the staff reports and recommendations the Thursday prior to the meeting.

@6 The plans and staff recommendations will be available the Thursday before the meeting. Citizen input can be through email, phone or attendance at the meeting. It has been like that for several years now, independent of the mayor.

@9 No it hasn’t. We used to get it at least two weeks out. I know, because I have been part of the process for other properties.

@11 That is an attack that I find untrue and not deserving of being posted, and I hope the moderator sees this. Further, she is NOT in charge of CAR. She is a trained architectural historian, and she works in the same area but is not in charge of CAR.I would not be upset if this thread was closed due to that comment.

@11’s comment has been deleted. Not sure how that particular comment was approved and we’ll reach out to Ms. Chen.

As a reminder, to all of you who comment, remember the guidelines. Do not be a jerk. No personal insults. Be neighborly.
