This is so infuriating… Why? Why did someone feel the need to do this?

The Fairy Garden was vandalised last night. I made two sets of “mushrooms” out of paper cache and pine cones. They are very distinctive, one of a kind. I did some weeding and cleaning Saturday. One of the “mushrooms” was stolen and one was stomped on.

At what point will the police finally crack down on vandalism, car theft and property crime. It’s getting out of control and it’s going to get worse during the summer if the police don’t act.

Screw the thugs in Church Hill. I am so glad I sold my house there, there’s no end in sight to this madness. I am so sorry for everyone who still has to endure the vandalism, stolen packages, break-ins, stolen cars, etc… I wish you all some relief from this soon.

You should be careful of the words you choose Brittany. “Well, the truth is that thug today is a nominally polite way of using the N-word. Many people suspect it, and they are correct. When somebody talks about thugs ruining a place, it is almost impossible today that they are referring to somebody with blond hair. It is a sly way of saying there go those black people ruining things again.”

Jamie Dunn Swann maybe you need to spend some time there. What was stated wasn’t false.

Jamie Dunn Swann I lived there many many years and whether or not you approve of the term thug it is befitting. I had enough bad experiences I moved to the museum district and never looked back. Trash is trash…

How about you hop off this page if you don’t live here anymore.

I wasn’t trying to say anything about race. I lived there for 5 years and uprooted my entire life due to the crime and just not feeling safe anymore. I edited it to say crime and not thugs because I don’t want to upset anyone. I loved church Hill and it makes me sad to see that things are still not improving and seem to be getting worse. No need to be so defensive.

And if my original post seemed emotionally charged it’s because it was. I dealt with several home and car break-ins while I lived there, as well as items being stolen from my yard. It’s an extremely violating feeling.

OMG I just tried to call them for takeout and wondered why no answer? This just pisses me off. I hope someone in the area has a camera.

There’s no way the house across the street doesn’t have cameras (they blocked their house from Google Street View, they are tech savvy). I’d think there’s a house in every direction with cameras on their front porches.

Watch the profanity Telly – this isn’t the place for that. Also, breaking windows isn’t how to deal with adverse effects of gentrification. What is? Oh, maybe making sure that affordable housing still exists in the neighborhood – tons of projects like that going on. Examples – two people near me are in their houses due to different affordable housing grant programs, the new Better Housing Coalition apartments on Venable, all the sub-market rate homes in the 1300s around 26th-28th that come with income restrictions . . . So yes, people CAN be mad about Anthony’s because this neighborhood is bending over backwards to not be a typically gentrified place.

This line of posting does no good for anyone, so stop it! A thug is a thug is a thug no matter what excuse is invented to justify it.

I was concerned enough on June 12 to notify CHPN of some unusual activity on Grace St. I have several images recorded on my security camera which I have been trying to turn over to the police. To date they have not returned my phone calls.
If and when they do, I will give them the images of four people cruesing around repeatedly and maybe that will help.

Has anyone found out if the window was smashed with some kind of object or gunfire? I’ve read about the broken window(s) that we’re reported across from Chimborazo Park, I wonder if this is the work of the same person/people.

In the almost 3 decades that I’ve lived up here, I don’t recall a restaurant being vandalized like this. Maybe there’s a new group of kids in the neighborhood responsible for this. Another thought that crossed my mind is that this vandalism seems very specific and personal, no other restaurants were targeted so far (keeping my fingers crossed!). What a shame for all of us; we need to keep supporting this wonderful establishment.

It would not be the first time criminals sought to hide behind race…… think of the klan…. and be that as it may, crimes are crimes. There’s always a reason. There certainly was before gentrification In Churchhill, and sure, there is now. What we call crime is that part of human behavior where, even if you have a reason, it’s just wrong. And Mr Hankton, your handle seems to show the kind of tool you’d like people to believe you are. Small wonder you’d like to pull the fabric of blackness over criminality and use it for protection…..
