CAR to consider 3 single family rehabs, no new construction this month

The agenda for the September 26 meeting of the Commission of Architectural Review has a number of local projects:

  • 3801 Glenwood Avenue – Demolition and Redevelopment
  • 727 North 22nd Street – Construct 2-story rear addition, restore front porch.
  • 3200 East Broad Street – Construct a stoop for new chair lift on side of structure, create new entrance.
  • 608 North 23rd Street – Rehabilitate a single family home, replace front steps
  • 2514 East Marshall Street – Rehabilitate single family home.
  • 2113 M Street – Rehabilitate a single family home.
  • 2620 East Grace Street – Enclose portion of side porch, install fence
  • 2320 Venable Street – Rebuild side and rear wall of a single family home.
  • 101 North 29th Street – Enclose side porches and construct a rear addition

Is the first item, the Glenwood Ave. one, the trolley barn demo? Anyone know?

Click on the link to the agenda for the meeting, When the agenda comes up look at the two links under the agenda item. The first is the City demolition notice, and the second is the study of the site by Dutton. Interesting reading. We still have a chance to oppose the demolition.

All but three of the trolley bays and part of a wall will be demolished. Construction on the apartments will begin in January.

Thank you for helping share the CAR agenda on Church Hill People’s News. I wanted to clarify one item with you. The Commission will not be formally reviewing or having a public hearing on 3801 Glenwood Avenue. The Commission has an opportunity to provide comment as a part of the Section 106 process. The item is on the Business Portion of the Commission’s agenda to allow staff to share information about the project and the Section 106 process and to allow the Commission to discuss any comments they would like to share.
