Update: CHPN Granted a Stay of Execution

Update 11/15: We’re not going anywhere. Potentially found a workaround and a new partnership that will help us continue operations. While this is happening, we are turning off all new comments on new stories. You can still discuss things on social media. To a great rest of the year!

Hello neighbors,

CHPN will be closing up for business after the 2020 election. If you’re an avid reader with a vision that wants to take the helm, please email us at chpnrva@gmail.com

Some things to consider:

  1. We can pay for the hosting fees for the first year
  2. You will get access to not just the website but all of the current social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  3. Running the website can be satisfying but it is a ton of work and you will need help running it if you’re working a full-time job

Thanks,

The team

Oh wow, this is hard news to swallow! I’ve very much enjoyed your local news updates throughout the years…even all of the bickering that went along with it. Thank you for all of your hard work, it will be missed!

From what I understand, there is just too much local competition with Church Hill groups online. CHPN was (is) unique as it used to be on top of local events, issues, and history. It contains a LOT of historical data and photos which need to be preserved somewhere but do understand that this job is not for the faint of heart and needs full dedication. It is a complex website (honestly, I felt it was more successful prior to the upgrade which is not as user-friendly).

Is there any funding for the position?

Gustavo – Thank you and CHPN for all you’ve given to our neighborhood. Your reporting and efforts are much appreciated. The closing of CHPN will leave a huge void.

I agree Eric, the upgrades never worked for me and I found it difficult to navigate the page and find articles like I use to. The frustration of navigating the site after the upgrades drove me away. It was a nice resource while it lasted.

We’re not quite done yet, Joshua. Working on fixing all 13000 stories that are miscategorized. In the meantime, go to the Archives when you click on a post and click on East End News. This should be fixed soon.

Well, the election is over (in theory) and wonder where the group stands?
