Be careful out there folks! The Influenza Virus is here and wreaking havoc on our community (along with the rest of Virginia!). Please remember to visit your healthcare providers and ask about getting your flu shots. Depending on your insurance, you can even visit your local Walgreens or CVS or Hope Pharmacy and get a quick flu-shot! Be sure to call them ahead of time before visiting though, just to make sure, of course!
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everybody 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each year.
Symptoms of the flu include:
- Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle or body aches
- Fatigue (tiredness)
- Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
Here’s a link to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s page on Influenza (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm). It has a wealth of information including symptoms, treatments and even tips on how to care for somebody who may already have the virus! Remember though, we should always try to visit our doctor if we suspect illness.
Let’s all strive to keep ourselves as healthy as can be!
