River City Fit Now Open!

A local box is now competing in the field right on 25th St.

River City CrossFit recently opened on the hill right on 16 N 25th St.

Jacob Keller, who owns River City CrossFit, has lived in the neighborhood for a little under a year, and has a deep love for the east side!

Can you tell the community a bit about yourself?

I’m 25 years old and married to my wife Hanna who is in school at VCU for education in counseling. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a B.S. in mathematics and quickly realized that I didn’t want to do anything in math. We care deeply about people and realize the most important thing in life are relationships and connection to people.

Why Crossfit and why now?

I found CrossFit 2 years ago in Fredericksburg and really like the competitive atmosphere. Exercising with a group of people made me better and pushed me harder than I would push myself. I decided, because I liked CrossFit so much and saw the health benefits from this type of training, I wanted to share that with as many people as possible!

For the last 2 years, I have coached at multiple CrossFit gyms, but still felt like my vision for how I wanted a community to be shaped and spurred on wasn’t being realized. I’m very thankful for those awesome gyms. I really want to make an impact on the east side of the city, especially with kids.

Kids are the future of the world, and if we can teach them to have healthy habits and lifestyle, we can change the trajectory of their lives as well as the community around them.

Some folks are little daunted by the intensity of crossfit, what would you tell someone new to make them come check it out?

CrossFit is intense!

However, under the watchful eye of a great coach, we can manage that intensity. People get hurt because they go too hard, too fast. At River City Fit we play the long game. Results don’t come quickly, but only over time if we are able to stay consistent. Our coaches are there to help manage that intensity through proper biomechanics, and the community is there to help spur us on in the journey!
