This Story Speaks for Itself – Landlord Alert

If you caught the headlines in the past couple of days you might have seen this gem on NBC 12 or a follow-up in Virginia Mercury.

Dean Parsons is a local landlord that owns over 300 units (houses and multi-family) in the Richmond area. He was caught, on tape, making racial slurs against his tenant among other things. If you’re thinking of renting from him or his company Parsons & Associates you might want to think twice.

We have a lot of good landlords around Richmond and specifically the East End but we certainly have a few stinkers as well. We need to make sure and put our money to good use and not patronize businesses that do not support our values or the community we want to see take shape.

I am curious to know if he tries to transfer his properties to multiple LLCs or other entities so that it is harder to determine that you are renting from him. That is a fair number of properties and he has gotten a lot of really bad publicity.

This man owns a property on my street that had the same tenants for at least the last 15 years. They were there so long I never realized they were renters. The property and house were always a mess. Welp, those tenants moved out fairly suddenly and the house sat condemned for a bit. Now its been flipped and up for sale. I feel for the future owners of the home because who knows what condition things are in under the nice new paint, but I will certainly be glad to not share a street with this man as a property owner. FYI for those wondering, the family that lived in the house was white, but didn’t seem to really have it together. Seems like this guy is not only a racist, but just basically takes advantage of anyone that’s not in a position to afford-financially or otherwise-fighting him.

If that’s the type of business attitude that you want in a landlord then you go rent from him. There is people putting money in his pocket there needs to be a change in attitude. If that’s acceptable attitude then he needs to sell a his properties and start up somewhere where u can be openly racist because that is no longer acceptable and should not be normalized. “It does happen …. maybe you should rent from him if that’s the attitude you’re going to have about it”

Dean Parsons should lose business. This piece of racist slime should not manage anything if this is his way of communicating with people of color.

It seems as if he is associated with, or operates under, more than one business name. He owns Intermont Properties. Currently, his name and number (804-740-1991) are provided as the contact information for many Richmond rental listings on numerous advertising sites.

Suanan Smithe, the guy is a douche without a doubt, but posting his personal information is LOW and illegal : “Invasion of privacy with malicious intent” I believe , hopefully the moderators will take down your lame post.

Mr. Smithe I think you misunderstand. The number she gave is just the number listed on public websites that is given freely. It’s not his personal number but probably that of his office.

That is what happens with what we commonly call, slumlords. They prey on the vulnerable and stay invisible. When we moved to Church Hill, it was Stanley Smith but he died and his son sold off the properties.

You can always check the SCC entity search online to find out who owns an LLC.

Thanks Jacob for informative share! I still see many home owners making racial slurs against their tenant everyday. However, if you don’t have enough money to own a house. You have to learn how to accept that. It’s sad, right?
