Outside of Church Hill: RVA MakerFest!

MakerFest is a wonderful opportunity to spend a Saturday. Danielle Hines shares about this year’s event happening October 6th.

RICHMOND, VA—Celebrating our monumental fifth year, RVA MakerFest is back for another amazing year of hands-on activities! This free admission event will take place at the Science Museum of Virginia on October 6, 2018, from 10am-5pm. This family-friendly event showcases 80+ local makers and allows attendees, both children and adults, to participate in activities and purchase local goods for sale! The goal of this event is to celebrate local talent, educate children and adults on how things are made, to connect makers with the RVA community, and
to empower future entrepreneurs.

RVA MakerFest is a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Organization consisting of volunteers from a number of Richmond-area companies and groups. The goals of our organization are to break down the silos between existing makers and maker groups to encourage a collaborative DIY community in Metro Richmond, to inspire all Richmonders to embrace tinkering and creation as paths to learning and innovation, and to advance the STEAM disciplines–science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics–among people of all ages to seed more makers.

Previous RVA MakerFest student attendees reported that their grades went up in science, technology, engineering, and math after their MakerFest experiences connected the dots on the importance of these subjects in school. We are happy to report that this year, we have 10
youth entrepreneurs as vendors at the event!
