Commemoration Event for MLK’s I Have a Dream Speech- Tuesday 8/28

Please find the final itinerary for the event next Tuesday August 28th to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of Dr. King’s I Have A Dream speech. The event will be held in the auditorium of the MLK Middle School, starting at 4:00pm, and will follow this basic schedule:

First 1/2 of program – 4:00 to 4:30pm – Celebrating the Speech
> Welcome by MLK Middle School Principal Inett Dabney
> Comments by RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras
> Description of the event program and intro of Senator McClellan by Rick Tatnall, Replenish Richmond
> Comments by Senator Jennifer McClellan, Chair of the Virginia MLK Commission
> Presentation of the speech (17 minutes)

Second 1/2 of program – 4:30 to 5:00pm – Celebrating the MLK Murals
> Introduction by Diane Hayes, Richmond Parks & Rec, of the MLK Mural Project
> UNITY Street Project mural artists Hamilton Glass and James Thornhill discussing the painting process
> Presentation of the MLK mural project
> Closing remarks from a couple of students who participated in the project
> After the event attendees are invited to view the MLK mural which is just across the parking lot from the auditorium.
