Oakwood Arts’ inaugural summer benefit auction, SOLSTICE, was a resounding success! This sold-out event brought artwork by internationally acclaimed artists and emerging artists together in front of established collectors and institutions such as the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. We made new friends, brought awareness to repairs needed for our historic building, and raised funds for Oakwood Arts’ programming. Catering by new Church Hill business Soul & Vinegar and a set by local DJ Michael “Mikemetic” Williams were smashed hits, and silent auction items highlighted local organizations like Friends of East End and Afrikana Independent Film Festival as well as neighborhood artist Unicia Buster. One of the highlights of the evening was the screening of the films that produced by the students in Oakwood Art’s Digital Storytelling Workshop that was led by the VMFA’s videographer Briget Ganske. Those films can be seen at this link. https://vimeo.com/user72414556
