Richmond, VA – Mayor Levar M. Stoney announced Richmond’s first recognition of National Youth Violence Prevention Week. To commemorate this event, Richmond’s youth violence prevention coalition, INSPIRE Workgroup, has coordinated weeklong activities starting Monday, March 19 and ending Friday, March 23.
“We recognize how violence affects children from all walks of life, but in Richmond, the vast majority of youth violence occurs in communities experiencing socioeconomic and public safety challenges,” said Mayor Stoney. “This is an exciting opportunity to showcase collaboration across our city and within these communities, highlighting the efforts of city agencies, non-profits, community members and youth all working together to prevent violence and build One Richmond, where our youth are provided with opportunities for a better future.”
The INSPIRE Workgroup was established to raise awareness and educate the Richmond community about effective ways to prevent or reduce youth violence. For additional information regarding the week’s activities or the INSPIRE Workgroup, please contact the co-chair Kim Young at (804) 646-5415 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
