Front Porch Cafe soft opening set for next Friday

The Front Porch Cafe at 26th and Nine Mile will hold their initial soft opening next Friday, September 29, says CHAT’s Chris Whiting, with actual working hours and a grand opening date to be announced soon.

The new coffeeshop will serve as both a new place for community to gather and as job training vehicle through CHAT’s Work Leadership Institute.

The evolution of the Nine Mile corridor between 25th Street and Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital is one of the city’s best stories right now. In the works since early 2016, the coffee shop will bring a much need “third space” to the corridor in advance of the new grocery store and cooking school. The new Neighborhood Scoop ice cream truck/shop is directly across 26th Street, and an incredible residential rebuilding has taken place in the blocks of 26th/27th/28th across Nine Mile.

@Alicia ‘Vyborny’ Svensen – and job training for neighborhood kids! It’s a complete win/win scenario.

Who has angry eyes about a cafe? Let’s pump some money into that part of the neighborhood!

@Joyce Smith Hubbard – the grocery store and cooking school are still coming, in 18 months or so. The coffee shop is a block east of where the grocery store will be.

This should be a great experience and hands-on opportunity for youth throughout the East End. I’m glad to see that’s finally ready to open.

Is that what all that construction is right next to it?
