Package theft on 23rd Street (VIDEO)

Patrick sent in this video of a man taking a package off of a porch on the 400 block of 23rd Street:

Our camera caught a young man stealing a package off our porch on the 400 block of 23rd Street yesterday. He crossed the street and removed another package from our neighbor’s porch as well. It occurred midday yesterday, a little after 2pm. Please keep your eyes out for people who might be prowling up and down the street and going house-to-house!

This video makes me want to invest in some type of personalized drop box for my front porch. We had 2 packages stolen on 1/10/17.

I am missing a b&h package that was delivered this past Monday on 26th street. I have been keeping my eyes peeled!

Jessica Jones 01/26/2017 at 2:21 PM

Also the 400 block.

Tht individual is easily identifiable. Tall and skinny. Prob lives not too far away.

Jess Jones 01/26/2017 at 2:49 PM

Has this been turned into the police?

Elizabeth Ronston 01/26/2017 at 9:20 PM

And on the 600 block of 27th Street. Stolen on Monday.

Mick Hope 01/26/2017 at 9:31 PM

Someone should leave one rigged with some explosives – that would make a more entertaining video

Jessica Jones 01/26/2017 at 9:41 PM

Elizabeth Ronston ugh!! they will be sorely disappointed when they find it was just tiny white cotton gloves and a black bag. but still… has anyone sent this to the police??

Ally 01/26/2017 at 10:54 PM

Someone stole our doormat tonight (600 block of 30th) …like why?

Jessica Jones 01/26/2017 at 11:30 PM

thats ridiculous! i almost miss being on Venable bc the cops patrolled up and down every day, so i never had anything stolen.

Emily Klinedinst 01/27/2017 at 5:40 AM

Alas, that is not legal.

Emily Klinedinst 01/27/2017 at 5:41 AM

This is so nuts this happens so much in Church Hill! I get a lot of package deliveries out here in Peter Paul and have not had this problem. Really weird.

Mick Hope 01/27/2017 at 5:51 AM

Emily Klinedinst really ? Aw man …

Emily Klinedinst 01/27/2017 at 5:51 AM

So sorry!

We are on the 300 block of 23rd and had two packages taken at the same time of day. They seem to be doing this by car, just stopping on different blocks and picking up. They are clearly following the pattern of the delivery drivers because it had been less than an hour since I had picked up another packaged delivered on our porch.

Does anyone know if anyone has been caught by the police based on these videos? I have seen a few on various channels and they are pretty clear images, but they don’t seem to be a deterrent for crime. I have been considering getting one, however not sure how worth it they are if they don’t have an effect.

300 block of 27th as well… multiple packages stolen

Kay9 01/27/2017 at 7:49 PM

Megan- the camera has to be visible to thief in order to be a deterrent. The video here appears to be an inside camera pointed out the window.

Sounds like a troll

Op - Patrick 01/28/2017 at 7:24 PM

Detective contacted us today. Sent him the video. It is unlikely to involve any federal charges since it occurred after the delivery of the package. We might push this issue if they do actually catch the guy.

Video will be shared with officers in the area. If anyone did have more information on the suspect, or thefts in the same time period, let me know and we can pass along contact information for the detective.

I had a package stolen in December. Caught on my camera. Some guys at the vacant house next door talked the UPS guy into giving them the package! Yes, I called the police and reported it; and UPS; and the store I bought it from.
