Regie Ford will run as independent for 71st District House of Delegates seat

Graham Moomah has word that Regie Ford will be an independent candidate for the 71st District House of Delegates seat in the February special election:

Regie Ford, a former president of the African-American-focused civic group Richmond Crusade for Voters, said he’ll run for the 71st District seat as an independent after he was unable to file his caucus paperwork and $1,500 filing fee within the 24-hour window specified by a Democratic committee.

Ford is a former president of Richmond Crusade for Voters, endorsed Robert Sarvis in the last gubernatorial election, and is endorsed by Virginia Right! (“an unapologetic and conservative view of Richmond and surrounding areas”).

3rd District School Board representative Jeff Bourne will be the Democratic candidate.

The special election for the for the 71st District House of Delegates seat will be on February 7, 2017. The candidate filing deadline for this election is Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The deadline to register to vote in this election is Tuesday, January 31, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is also January 31, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, February 4, 2017.
