Lock your cars, lock your houses

So, wanted to share: We’ve heard from some of our tenants on Chimborazo that on multiple occasions someone has knocked on their front door to see if anyone is home, then attempted to open the door when the tenant didn’t answer. (Presumably looking for doors left unlocked in hopes of an easy robbery?)

My car was broken into last week. I believe I left it unlocked. Nothing was taken, but there was nothing valuable to take. Monday night around 2am I looked out my window (27th and Leigh) and saw 3 slender (probably young) men in black hoodies checking car doors. A neighbor’s car was open and they began rifling through it. I set off my own car alarm to scare them away and called the police.

I suggest everyone keep valuables secure and double check that car doors are locked, especially at night. And please call the police if they see anyone trying to open car doors. I personally wish I hadn’t scared the looters off, because the police officers may have gotten a head start on them if I had called but watched quietly to see which direction they went.
