This week’s COLD CASE TUESDAY from the RPD is a local one:

As we approach 16 years, we ask the public to provide any information about the murder of Donald Harris.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2000 on Jennie Scher Road near Gilleys Creek, victim Donald Harris was found dead in his vehicle by a Richmond Police officer.

Harris, known to his family and close friends as Donnie, left his home at the 2000 block of Williamsburg Road to make a purchase at a restaurant at the intersection of Williamsburg and Government Roads. He left his home at approximately 8:30 p.m. and was believed to be abducted and killed before his body was found by a Richmond Police officer only 27 minutes later.

“The persons responsible for this heinous crime abducted and killed the victim near his home. There were numerous people who saw Donnie Harris in his vehicle with at least two other individuals,” said Detective Joseph Fultz. “These persons are possibly responsible for this terrible crime and are suspected in numerous other crimes. The family of Donnie Harris wish only for closure and justice in murder of their beloved family member.”
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Joseph Fultz at (804) 646-3929 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

In 2000, there were 17 killings in the East End, and 72 for the entire city.
