I’m still in favor of Jon Baliles. And Stoney really blew his own campaign, in my mind, by admitting that he’s been involved secretly in the ballpark plans all year. That’s more business as usual just like the current administration.

I also received both in the mail. The anti-Morrissey flyer was really aggravating: why can’t Stoney’s ad tell us what he’s actually going to _do_, not what’s wrong with the other candidate.

(PS: ‘indicted’ doesn’t mean ‘convicted’)

Next we’ll hear “that was a PAC that I have nothing to do with, I don’t know anything about that ad . . . “

Where does it say in the one about Morrissey taking bribes that it was sent by Stoney?

@1 i agree, the secret ballpark negotiations does not look good. It makes me wonder what stoney got out of it. At least with berry you know what you are expecting.

Secret ballpark negotiations? The guy brought VCU and the Squirrels together to start the planning process. The MOU is the start of the process. No one had done that before because the mayor and his lackey Berry prevented any alternatives to the Shockoe stadium from being discussed.

A vote for Baliles at this point helps Morrissey become mayor. If that’s what you want, just say you support Morrissey for mayor, because Jon does not have a chance.

@7 exactly how does a vote for Baliles support Morrisey? I’ve heard that said on here several times now, but I don’t get it. Please explain, thanks.

@7 – yes, secret negotiations. It wasn’t transparent, involved a mayoral candidate working backroom deals, indicates that the city will be coughing up money (with a new administration potentially holding the bag), talks about regional participation (i.e. $$) but no officials from the surrounding counties were consulted. I’d say that pretty much qualifies as secret.

According to the latest polls that John posted Morrissey is winning in 5 districts which would get him the mayorship. If you don’t want a Morrissey mayor because of indictments and underage affairs, etc. then the best thing we can do in District 7 is vote for Stoney who would then take one of his districts and force a runoff between Morrissey and whomever comes in second (only Stoney and Berry have a chance at this, but we have to knock him out of one district to force the runoff). At this point the other candidates have ABSOLUTELY no chance… Read more »

@9 a press release that VCU and the baseball team are looking for a site is not opacity, especially when their search is consistent with the largest public engagement effort, especially in terms of public participation, that the city has ever seen. How many private citizens participated? 6,000.

@9 yes, on point sir! @7 Levar got caught with a transparency issue and rightfully criticized for it. Because of people like you Joe does not even have to do squat, because you are actually helping to tear the anti morrisey community apart. At least murden has the decency of a logical response. Oh by the way, if you want a stadium, vote for berry because at least the has the experience for that.

A lesson little Levar didn’t bother to learn from his mentor/benefactor: (from WP article)

Asked about Morrissey, the governor (McAuliffe) said, “I am for Levar Stoney. I don’t attack Democrats.”

@ 19 John M

Take a look at his mailer that you scanned, above his photo…clearly states/proclaims that he is (still?) a Democrat. Also, the text reads: “I fought for Democratic Party principles…”

Who is the Master of the Universe that determines whether or not someone is a Democrat (or Republican for the matter)?
Is it Mr. Minor, the local Chairman of the Richmond Club for Democrats?

@17 I just saw your post about the Wash Post. JIMMY BUFFET’s guy gave to Stoney? Gimme a break.

@22 Yes to a certain extent, but that’s if you want to belong to the city committee. The state level designation came because someone played with the paperwork and declared him not eligible for the Dem ticket for a state senate seat, so he turned around and ran as an Independent then pulled out for medical reasons (Roslyn Dance won the seat against McQuinn). You are not required to declare affiliation for a seat in local elections.

@24 So is it Mr. Minor who decides whether you get to belong to the Democratic Club in Richmond?
