This is sad but also we need to think of the family and this makes me realize that we need to be doing more in the community to care and be of support for those in our community who are not part of the in crowd or of the lighter complexion we need to be willing to be vulnerable and love and support any and everyone period.

My heart goes out to his family.

As an aside, perhaps I missed something, but I am not seeing where it says that this man so sadly passed was African American.

I do not assume that this was actually an overdose until that is confirmed, but be that as it may, we do have a problem with addiction, and specifically heroin, nationwide I guess, but certainly here in the Church Hill North/Oakwood area. This clearly impacts people of all races directly, everyone indirectly, is costing lives, and is damaging families in the saddest of ways every day.

Could we please include a serious and well funded methadone clinic or 3, perhaps in the 9Mile plans? To me, that seems like caring.

Are there other concrete things we could do to help address this problem in a serious and constructive way for those living (and dying) with it?

This is sad indeed. Apart from offering our sympathies to the family/friends of this man and others who are struggling with drug addiction in the community, I would also suggest that we recognize that drug addiction and drug dealing are serious and real problems in Church Hill.

Once we do this, how about calling the police on the neighborhood drug dealers who operate with impunity in known drug houses and corner stores? How about helping addicts find treatment centers? With all the discussion about development along the 25th street corridor, how about we push city officials to build a couple of methadone clinics in that area?
