Harley has been liberated and needs a permanent home

A follow-up to the story of the dog who was seen being abused back in December. The dog, AKA Harley, is now at RAC and available for adoption.

From reddit/r/rva:

After a lengthy process the pup has finally been liberated from his abusive owner! He is available at Richmond Animal Control right now.

I had the chance to spend a few days with Harley and he is a very very cool dog. Harley is extremely athletic and LOVES to fetch a ball, he is also house broken and crate trained as well.

I would have loved to look after him longer but he needs to be in a household where he is the only dog and there are no cats. He seems to be fine with meeting and socializing with other dogs in neutral areas outside of the home and even played very well with other dogs at the park, but I think he needs to be king of his own castle.

He is perfectly happy chilling with you and snoozing while you watch tv or he can switch it on and be ready to go for a nice long run with you. He also LOVED getting bathed in the tub which makes me think he would be the perfect river buddy this summer.

Please head to RAC and meet HARLEY today. Here is link to a flyer with some pictures and who to contact about meeting him.

*please note that he definitely seems a bit stressed when he is in his kennel run at animal control. His attitude does a complete 180 when he is out.

Oh he sounds wonderful!! I really, really, really, hope that someone reads this and wants to take him in. Very kind and thoughtful description of this pup. I appreciate what’s been done for him so far. Nice job.

I wish we could adopt him as rescues make the best pets. They have a special bond with those who save them from an abusive situation. We have an elderly rescue so can’t adopt him but if we didn’t, definitely would. He deserves a loving forever home!
