It looks like the long-awaited fountain will soon be put in place at Jefferson Park… From the Friends of Jefferson Park:
JEFFERSON PARK FOUNTAIN CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON
Brooks Construction Company is scheduled to begin installation and construction of the Jefferson Park Fountain in October, with a completion date in December. But as you know, things like final permitting and weather can impact the construction schedule. But folks, the project is moving forward! We will keep you posted.
We look forward to the day when park visitors can sit along the fountain and enjoy the best skyline view of the City of Richmond. What a beautiful asset for Jefferson Park and the Union Hill Neighborhood!

How about a bathroom that doesn’t stink like hell and gets cleaned every once in a while? Without metal toilets and maybe with a couple mirrors over the sinks?

There is money for this but the mayor tells Council that there is no money for more police and that we need to layoff building inspectors. We don’t need a fountain right now. We need money going to finish the 2014 financial report–the report that every other city, county and town has already filed. We need money to provide competent basic services.
What? I thought we needed money for the schools. (This is sarcasm, if you can’t tell) Cities can, and should, be able to fund a variety of things. Park enhancements in Richmond have always been very low on the list. It is good to spend a little on something like this. Now if we could get Monroe Park redone like it has been planned for several years…
@BAF – When you made the same complain back in 2013 it was explained that the money was coming from the J Fulmer Bright Foundation, not the city.
The J. Fulmer Bright Foundation donated funds for the purchase of the fountain. The City is funding the installation.
Mr. Murden, it appears some city money is involved for installation. I appreciate nice parks too, but I am deeply troubled by a city administration that can find money to install a decorative fountain, but cannot find money to keep sidewalks and alleys in a safe level of repair. Given the lack of a finance report, I don’t think my opinion is that outlandish.
Not sighting one way or the other on your opinion, just pointing out that we’d been here before.
Have to agree with BAF on this one. The city needs to focus on the basics first. Over the summer, it was quite evident that the city was failing….miserably. When the parks are not being mowed until the grass and weeds are two feet tall, sidewalks in many areas are still in bad shape and the alleys are down-right embarrassing, we shouldn’t be spending a dime on a fountain.
With this fountain being so close to the hood, how long will it be before it gets vandalized or stolen???

Why don’t you all look at the many programs funded out of city hall, you would be amazed what is being funded/ who is being funded.
Keep a look out for the delivery of the fountain to Jefferson Park. Perhaps as soon as next week.
