wtvr is reporting that a house near 29th and R Streets was hit with bullets overnight.
That has been the second time this has happened in 3 weeks. I just bought a home on that street and now wish I hadn’t. There are only a few people who live on that block right now. More than half of the houses are vacant.
@transplant Native here…. don’t fret. The neighborhood is overwhelmingly populated by good/hardworking people…. Don’t let the few rotten people that also happen to live here spoil your experience in the neighborhood. I’ve been in CH for a year and have loved it. For as long as I remain in RVA I’ll be in CH. For what it’s worth, it’s still summer; crime in the area is usually worse this time of year. If you haven’t yet, check out crime stats from RVA through the last ~20 years. We’re doing better almost every year! Don’t know how long you’ve been here but everyone should remember this is a city! These things just happen more often when there are more people living in an area. Get to know the other people on your block. Four new houses have been built within a block of mine in less than a year, so I’m sure you’ll have more neighbors sooner rather than later.
I know there’s more good than bad in and around church hill…. It just makes me sad when some low life – who may not even live in the neighborhood! – does something to immediately sour a person on the place. Just give it time!
What can WE do about it? Instead of just waiting and being painfully tolerant?
keep your eyes open, report suspicious activity, watch out for your neighbors as well as getting to know them. Those security cameras are really cheap and the picture quality is excellent.
I did not know that I was suppose to report when a bullet hit my house!
Hearing shots around 830 and 1130 tonight fired in the vicinity of 35th Street….Lovely neighborhood we have here! Church Hill…Some things never change!
