Just signed the petition. Please, let’s preserve this land and preserve this view.

But how do you buy something that isn’t for sale?

Price of the land just went up….this is just silly.

Isn’t this a little too late? Plans are already well underway for development.

It’s more than just buying the land, they will need to buy the missed profit.

Opportunity cost in this instance should be waaaayyy more than raw land value.

Why not buy the air rights above a certain point for public use or preservation (Maybe some day there could be public garden plots, or something…?). Parks are great and all, but not without programming and/or people to use them. (Not opposed, but not every plot of land can or should be green space)

I’m guessing that developing this land is still problematic or it would be farther along in the process. It is my understanding it has to be offices and that maybe they can’t find a major tenant. I am opposed to this project because it ruins a piece of our history and the beauty of a public park, but even taking that out of the equation, a major office complex will cause major traffic problems on Main Street. It is already stressed during rush hour.and this greatly compounds the problem and there is no easy fix.

How much as been raised through the fund raising? Is there a tracker of some sorts? (I couldn’t find it on the web links) Are the funds being held somewhere until…when? I’m kind of confused about the donating.

Thi city has already shown a pattern of holding on to properties and selling only to preferred investors …so I fear this campaign is for naught. But I wish them well. That development belongs along an already developed river. Not along an undeveloped one.

Years ago when Echo reared it’s ugly head, David Cooley made a very profound post having to do with smelling a rat. David, could you repeat that here?

It doesn’t block the bend, it just blocks the river view between the cement towers and chapel island. It gives us access to that section of the James River, connects the VA Capital Trail, increases city revenue, and (the echo harbor website doesn’t mention this) creates a lot more incentive for the city to fix the CSO system. Maybe if a hundred rich people are complaining about poop in their water, the city will do something. Maybe they’ll be able to afford to do something.

What ever happened to the Master Plan? Why do we put up with developers’ pulling the strings of the city administration– undoing decisions that have been made by taxpayers? Privatizing river access is another example of “gated-community” attitudes.
