Mellissa has a great idea:
The Fan did this about a month ago–but they did a “Sanitation Worker Thank You Week” where they left small gifts and notes of thanks to the trash guys.
Can we do something like this in Church Hill…I think the good people of our community would dig it and it’s right on the heels of the guys striking because of low pay and broken promises.

My only issue is leaving stuff in the alley. Oh well, I’ll have to time it to when they normally pass our house.

I’m gonna make a target run for Kind bars and Skittles. Nothing says thanks like nuts and rainbows.

Nothing wrong with showing appreciation, I encourage it. But, a note or call to your city council member as well telling them you support our sanitation workers fight for better pay and benefits might make a difference. Can you imagine how they would all feel to hear 6732 people called council on their behalf?
I posted on every post that they deserve that raise, but my guy puts my trash can back to block my off-alley parking spot every week, some sort of passive aggressive slam. I have to get out of my car, move the can back to where I leave it every week and get back in my car to park. I’d be fired for such deliberate abuse of customers.
That sound you hear is all the homeless can pickers making off with a bounty of goods. “Thanks” indeed!
