Suga Sunset this Sunday at Sugar Pad

Suga Sunset is this Sunday from 7-10 PM at Sugar Pad down by Rocketts Landing. Come out while you still can…

From Rick Tatnall:

Starting next Wednesday July 1st almost all of the Intermediate Terminal property, including the Sugar Pad, will become a construction zone for several months probably to extend beyond the Cycling Championships at the end of September.

The work that will be done includes fixing the middle section of the Intermediate dock area that has been fenced off for many years due to a deteriorating wooden piling foundation.

I think they are going to demo the current dock and replace it in some way which will return this section to active use for fishing and hanging out. The construction work also includes demolishing 1/3 of the Sugar Pad closest to Gillies Creek, which I just found out about yesterday. This demo will also eliminate the trees that are growing out of that section of the pad, and the old wooden wharf remnants that are attached to that part of the pad.

Apparently the Sugar Pad demo is being done to give future Stone Brewery patrons a clear view of the James River – the Stone “Beer Garden” will be partly under the Intermediate Terminal Building which is the building that goes over Dock Street, which will be reconfigured to connect with East Main Street near the Ash Street connection.

Since the Sugar Pad is going away for a while, please come out this Sunday for our last organized event – Suga Sunset – from 7-10pm. We will have an entertainment stage offering rap, song, spoken word and more. The forecast is excellent and we expect a spectacular sunset at 8:35pm. The moon is almost full and will be over us as we party on Pad. Bring a chair and a cooler and come check out the Sugar Pad and learn about the changes for the future.
