East Grace Street House Concert Series kicks off summer with Curtis McMurtry

Jennifer Elsner and David Shields want you to come hang out in their East Grace Street backyard and listen to some music.

The second season of the East Grace Street House Concert Series kicks off next Friday, June 5th, with a performance by Curtis McMurtry (Austin), the first of four scheduled scheduled house concerts set for this summer. McMurtry is a self-described Americana/Folk/Singer-Songwriter, with a simple, classic sound. Give him a listen at curtismcmurtry.bandcamp.com.

“We moved from Austin to Richmond in 2012 and fell trulymadlydeeply for Church Hill,” say Elsner and Shields. Inspired by the Wyldwood House Shows in Austin, they opened up their backyard last year to friends and neighbors for three mini-concerts by traveling musicians.

In Austin, says Elsner, it’s remarkable “how much the outside space is part of your space”. The concerts are a way to “invite people in to fill the space.”

The premise is simple: The couple sets up the lo-fi and intimate show, and neighbors and friends come out and have fun. It’s a bring-your-own-picnic, bring-your-own-lawnchair kind of environment… The tickets are generally $20/head [TICKETS], 100% of which goes to the performer.

Jennifer says that the shows have been well received. “The neighbors are cool, we have great neighbors […] and we don’t go late.”

An address on East Grace St. would be helpful.

My understanding is that once you sign up to come, you’ll get notification of the address. This is after all someone’s house, and they want to have control of he scope of things.

Thanks, John for answering Raven. Yes, you are correct. When receipt of purchase is received, I send a confirmation email with all the details. Even a map 😉

Jennifer and David: I’m the President of the Church Hill Association living over on Franklin Street. I saw the article about your home in a recent magazine. I’d like to talk to you about being on the Church Hill Historic Holiday House tour next December 13. Please email me. I’m scheduling homes now through August. I can give you the details when we meet. Thank you
Tom
