Imagine Jefferson Avenue at Greening America’s Capitals meetings in June

The City of Richmond was selected in 2014 as one of five cities to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Greening America’s Capitals technical design assistance to help green the public spaces along the Jefferson Avenue corridor.

The goal of the program is “to help state capitals develop an implementable vision of environmentally friendly neighborhoods that incorporate innovative green infrastructure strategies. […] These pilots are often the testing ground for citywide actions, such as changes to local codes and ordinances to better support sustainable growth and green infrastructure.”

There will be two public meetings in June to introduce the next step of the project, the Project Introduction on June 9 and a Public Open House on June 11.

The public is invited to come help envision how Jefferson Avenue can “be an inviting street that is safer for pedestrians and bicyclists, be a vibrant street with thriving local businesses, better manage stormwater runoff with the addition of green, infrastructure. [and ] honor its history as a gateway to some of Richmond’s oldest neighborhoods.”
