Small fire or something on Fairmount Avenue

The Richmond Fire Department was called out to the 2200 block of Fairmount Avenue just after 11:00 PM for a mysterious, if likely minor, incident.

From an eyewitness:

They have a light set up facing the front of the house, lots of responders. Whole block blocked by fire trucks.

They just got the chainsaw out. They are spraying down along the front step or porch column, using the axe for something, though no fire or smoke is visible. Doesn’t seem to be serious.

Most of the crew is leaving, the one guy said he couldn’t tell me anything.

Driving by today, it looked like the bottom of the front column was cut up. I’ll try to get a better look next time I pass by.

Has anyone found out what happened? If there was no smoke doesn’t mean the fire department wasn’t there for something else, especially with cutting devices. Possibly someone fell through the floor or ceiling or was pinned under something that fell inside?

No sign of a person under the porch (or somehow stuck), that was one guess, and too much effort for an animal. They spent a lot of time looking perplexed at the porch. The fireman I talked to seemed like there was a reason he couldn’t give information, but he responded with a lightness that indicated it wasn’t a serious matter. A neighbor and I stood in he cold for 30 minutes tossing ideas to no avail.
