Leigh Street closed until August

Starting last week, the City will began the process of replacing the 5th Street and 7th Street bridges over Leigh Street. Due to the construction, Leigh Street will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians, and parking between 4th Street and 8th Street until some time in August.

This is a little outside of our usual coverage area, but has a huge impact on getting anywhere via the MLK Bridge.

August… that’s intense.

Lots of construction it seems, when trying to leave the Hill… Mech Tnpk ramp, there was some at the ramp at Broad the other day…

I went to the Kroger on Broad via Leigh Street yesterday – detour no problem but coming back I came on up to Broad by MCV and had another detour at the railroad underpass – what was going on there they had both sides of Broad blocked there?

T0his afternoon I saw a lot of drivers losing their patience in the middle of the Farmer’s Market because of the Broad/Shockoe detour. It was pretty funny.

This is just insane. Yeah, it’s not that terrible most of the time but during the morning and evening rush hours this is completely untenable. It’s already way slower than necessary for me to get to VCU campus in the morning. With this plus Broad temporarily closed for water main repair, the city is basically trapping East Enders on the Hill. uugggghhhhh

Closer to home, does anyone know why Broad Street under the overpass near the I-95 entrance at 14th Street is closed (with horrible signage giving no warning)?

Also a huge pain for the city hall employees trying to get out of the parking deck at rush hour.

I take Leigh to work everyday, headed there the route is OK, I just hop over to broad, on the way home it makes getting back to Church Hill painful. Good for RVA fixing things, but this makes my 15 min ride home to about 40-45 min.

The construction seems to be continuing. Any updates or a link where I can get an update on this project?
