Union Market robbers quickly caught

Union Market on Jefferson Avenue was held up last night shortly after 10:30 PM.

Gillian Cochran, one of the three owners, said that “everyone is OK… the security system worked, and I have nothing but praise for how the police acted.”

Both individuals were previously known at the market and soon apprehended, with most of the stolen money recovered.

That’s scary. Why do people insist on bringing down the quality of life and level of safety in their own neighborhoods?

@WarGibFA I would put money on these perps not being from the neighborhood or even the East End.

How terrifying for the employees. Relieved that everyone is physically OK.

I think its funny how all these robberies dont make it to the local television news. Im actually fine with that, as long as the community is always informed!

The RPD really needs to keep on top of this crime (like they mostly have) before it really starts to bring the community down the wrong path again….

Its like living on the edge of the wild west…

Church Hillian, the police often request you not to contact the media or talk to the media about events, especially with ongoing investigations. But since this was settled so quickly, i don’t know. I was the victim of the shooting on Cedar St last month and i was told not to talk to the media, because it could impede the investigation.

Glad they were caught and everyone is ok! It’s this quick police work that will help teach that this behavior is not ok!!

I like that you said “wild west” in reference to living up here. I think some wild West justice would be appropriate

This actually was on the news. That’s how I first heard about it.

Jonny, sorry to hear about your incident. That’s is the battle a lot of people struggle with… Don’t talk about incidents and the police handle it, or let people know about the incident so they could possibly bring info to the table or be on the lookout …

Either way I think we need to significantly increase the community envolvement to help aid the RPD

@K
It’s definitely a tamer wildest that it was in the early 90’s!

Yea, i have heard that Richmond was a very volatile place in the 80’s-early 90’s. I have essentially gone from young adult to adult here the past 9 years, and had a very carefree attitude. That has definitely changed.

If the suspects were minors, it’s unlikely that anything else will become public. I suspect this is exactly the case, as I can’t seem to find any information about the arrests…
