My 88-year-old grandfather has buried 5 stray cats this week. Is anyone aware of someone putting down any poison around 37th & O street? He is a bit upset that these cats are dying like this. He has lived in this house for over 60 years and has always fed the birds and alley cats.

Before he buries any more, he ought to try taking the body to the pound or (if possible) a vet. Testing for arsenic poisoning and most other common poisons is fairly simple.
Also, this is the time of year when idiots change coolant and leave it sitting out. Cats (and dogs) are attracted to the smell, drink it, and then die.
In addition to what the commenter suggested, it could be accidental. Someone could have put down weed killer or something without considering stray animals that might be coming through.
We definitely would like to think that no one would do this intentionally. I’m hoping by spreading the word to the community, that if someone has put something down for rodents or whatever, they will get the message, that innocent animals are dying. Thanks so much
RT @chpn: Are cats being poisoned on 37th Street? http://t.co/0zvDfLRHjA
Unfortunately this sort of thing happens especially by evil and inhumane people. It is even more relevant during the colder months since antifreeze is extremely poisonous and fatal to pets and someone can say it was an “overflow” and an “accident” but of course was anything but. So be careful and on the lookout especially for any suspicious puddles on the ground in iridescent green tint colors.
Of course it can be a spill when you top off your overflow tank to the radiator so make sure you blot up the spill on the ground because it is sweet and animals will lick it up only to kill them in an agonizing death.
Do you have any descriptions of the cats that have been buried?
