Watch out for glass at the dog park!

Kerry has a heads-up about broken glass at the dog park at Chimborazo:

There is lots of broken glass at the bottom of the steps to the parking lot, and broken glass in the actual dog park! I picked up 2 handfuls this morning- Lots near the gate to the smaller fenced-in area but there was some in the dirt as well as near the entrance.

We have picked up a lot of similar glass in our back yard, actually. I have decided that, at least in the case of our yard, the infill dirt must have come from a landfill somewhere. If anyone else has a good explanation I would love to hear it.

i have the same issue on 32nd. every time it rains and some dirt erodes we find glass, one day, i hope to live in a house with a yard that doesn’t have hidden hazards.

After 26 years, my back yard still sports a new crop of broken glass every time there’s a hard rain – and that’s after a major pick up effort when we bought the house. Fairly sure there’s never been any infill – just a lot of years of slum tenants.

Over the summer I did lot of digging (drainage, landscaping, etc.) at a couple of apartments I manage in the area, and the amount of broken glass, garbage, etc. is astounding. There’s really more dirt than glass in some of the yards in the neighborhood. The most interesting thing I found was what appeared to be large quantities of coal mixed into the dirt…
