School Board set to finish rezoning process

The RTD’s Zachary Reid has a catch-up on the School Board’s rezoning process, with middle and high schools next up after last year’s contentious elementary school rezoning.

From the RTD:

The city has eight middle schools, five comprehensive high schools and four other secondary schools. There are more than 4,000 empty seats in the 17 schools, and the group has an occupancy rate of about 70 percent.

During Monday’s meeting, most members supported the idea of rezoning, though Mamie L. Taylor of the 5th District was so vocal in her opposition, she drew the ire of usually stoic Chairman Donald L. Coleman of the 7th District.
