Fatal shooting on Coalter Street

The Richmond Police Department is investigating the shooting of three individuals in the East End this morning that resulted in a homicide.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Coalter Street for the report of shots fired.

Officers arrived and found three males in the area of Coalter and Redd streets suffering from gunshot wounds. One male was pronounced dead at the scene while two other males were transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

This is the 4th killing in the East End this year, and the 38th for Richmond. Almost 11 months into 2014, the murder count in the East End is approaching half of 2013 total of 9.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.

Heard these shots… It was a long string of shots in quick succession.

I heard these shots as well. Lots of rounds super quick. Super scary. Whoever was shooting was not fucking around.

I swear, that whole area needs to be demolished and rebuilt as a senior living/retirement neighborhood. Coalter Street is getting to be the new Afton Avenue.

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Sunday morning’s homicide on Coalter Street as Zyemontae Redd, 15, of the 4300 block of Hill Brook Road, Henrico.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Coalter Street for the report of shots fired.

Officers arrived and found Redd and two other males in the area of Coalter and Redd streets suffering from gunshot wounds. The two wounded males were transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Detectives are following up on several leads.
