Urban Farmhouse hosting GROW RVA farmer’s market for grand opening

After a two month shake out, the new Urban Farmhouse will be holding their grand opening on March 8:

We are thrilled to announce our grand opening event will take place Saturday, March 8 from 1-4 PM. We will have live local music, featuring a local musician Sean Bendula and a Farmer’s Market.

GROW RVA has partnered with us to put on a local farmer’s market featuring vendors from the Richmond area. GROW RVA connects local farms, local food, and local arts with Richmond communities. We both share the same concept of building partnerships while promoting sustainability and healthy food options for all Richmonders. The farmer’s market will be vending items from local fruits and vegetables to wines. You name it we will have it!

We will also have child friendly events such as face painting. This is the perfect event to celebrate our establishing of a new urban Farmhouse location! By sharing our passion for local artisians and musicians and also welcoming our third location, we could not be more excited as to what Church Hill has in store for us! See you all there!

Normal operating hours are 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 9:00 Saturday, and 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday.

Gordo, you are not the only one wondering – where is this supposed to be? It should have been in the initial press release, but since it’s not, we’re asking, and hoping someone answers! Thanks!

While I’m at it, does anyone know if Urban Farmhouse has any vegan options for meals? Apparently Union Market does not, and offered a vegan a vegetarian sandwich with the comment ‘well just leave off the cheese.’ Any other vegans out there with comments on vegan options for local places? I’m curious. (And no, I’m not suddenly vegan, for those who know me, but I know someone who is.)

Proper Pie usually has vegan options. WPA sometimes has vegan soup & always has vegan muffins and pie.

There were rumors about them taking over the park for events, but when I checked this had never been discussed with the parks dept.

Union Market has some of the best vegan soups i’ve ever tasted! Last nite, we snarfed down a mushroom soup that was delish! Hunter & his peeps are bustin out more vegan & veggie stuff each time i visit.

I had the same mushroom soup yesterday afternoon at Union Market that Elaine describes and I second her “delish”. Very, very good!

I agree that it would be great to know where the market is going to be. Has Tricycle Gardens been invited to be part of it since they typically have a farmstand and are our only Churchill grower?

Thanks, Elaine and Clay St. res., I will pass that along to my vegan friend.

What’s up with all the negativity on this good concept? The phone numbers are in the post – if they need to be connected with Tricycle or another stakeholder, there is the number.

I hope they do end up using the park. If you think they are stepping on toes, then call them and tell them. Better a nice farmer’s market than the people sitting in their cars in Chimbo now cruising and smoking weed.

Here’s info provided to me by one of the contacts listed above:

‘We will have beer and wine vendors set up in the hallway to our Church Hill location and other vendors will be along the sidewalk of the building. Right now this is a one time event to raise awareness of our the new location. Speaking with Urban Farmhouse owner this is something we are planning to do more of in the future!’

Sounds great to me! I would love for this to become a regular weekend event. I think CH could support a farmers market, especially up here in Chimbo where we are totally cool with getting some beer and wine to go along with our fresh veggies and organic dairy products.

NEXT FRIEND

Since when is asking that proper process be followed considered hostility to something?

Exactly Chimbo! I am really tired of people thinking that anyone who has a question is complaining or being negative. It’s ok to have a question people. Get over it.

I think it sounds great! Hope they get a good turnout. PS I didn’t get any negativity on this thread, so, not sure how he read that. Certainly nothing compared to the usual mud-slinging that goes on around here, that’s for sure.

Wow! My son and I had a great time at the grand opening. It was bigger then I expected and had a bunch of great vendors, music, popcorn. It made me wonder if a farmers’ market on the hill could be a possibility. Maybe once a month or something.
