The Church Hill Association will be introducing at their meeting on Tuesday the amended SUP for Captain Buzzy’s (PDF) introduced at last Monday’s city council meeting. From an email sent out to CHA members:
CAPTAIN BUZZY – A REVISED SUP HAS BEEN INTRODUCED
The current position of the membership was taken on July 16th when the following motion was approved:
“That the membership should vote in opposition to SUP 2013-112 and if further amendments are presented to City Council for consideration it should come back to the membership for our further consideration”.
The Special Use Permit (or SUP) referred to above called for the removal of all the major restrictions that had been agreed to by the owner of Captain Buzzy’s in 2004.
A revised SUP was in fact introduced by Cynthia Newbille to City Council last Monday. They will be voting on it on Monday, Sept 23rd (in 10 days time). This revised version returns the major terms of the SUP back to those agreed in 2004 except it now requests an additional weekday opening hour to 10.00 pm and allows the sale of wine and beer.
This revised SUP, plus the two official letters to City Hall will shortly be available at: http://www.churchhill.org/communication/
The official letters: The first confirms the verbal request made to the CHA last February, and the second reflects the membership rejection of SUP 2013-112 as mentioned above.
What the Board proposes to do:
In spite of it being short notice but due to the upcoming Council vote:
1) The amended SUP will be brought to the attention of the membership at the next CHA membership meeting on Tuesday, September 17th, to be held at St John’s Parish Hall, 24th and Broad Street at 7.00pm.
2) If sufficient members (i.e. at least 15) request a special meeting we will hold one either after the formal membership meeting has ended on Tuesday, or another evening that week if the members present so decide.
If there is a quorum present at any special meeting held (10% of the membership) then a vote on any motion can be taken.
