Someone is being cheeky (UPDATED)

It looks like something is happening at the former Johnson’s Southern Comfort/Hesters’ Melting Pot/Jumpin J’s spot.

I’ll continue with the cheekiness, I know what’s going in here, and who’s behind it, but I shan’t divulge. Suffice it to say that I think the neighborhood will be pleased.

I just hope they put a lit open sign in the window and have some of the seating by the windows so passerby can tell if it is open or not….

Oh, I really hate not knowing. It’s better if you tell us now, that way we can a start talking about it and generating excitement. You’re only cheating yourself out of great marketing by keeping it a secret!

The question mark I get but…

is it just me or is there also a small phallic stencil below it? If it is, I’m guessing an Anthony Weiner campaign office? A new Sam Moore joint?

@15 I think that’s just a white floodlight that illuminates the sign.

From Union Hill Civic Association:

New Union Hill Business!

Union Hill Residents invited to find out about upcoming
Market/Sandwich Shop

Thursday, Sept 12th – 7pm
Location: 2300-2306 Jefferson Ave

Dear Union Hill neighbors,

We, Hunter Robertson, Gillian Field, and Shawn Tunstall, are excited to announce that we will be opening a new business in the commercial space at 2300-2306 Jefferson Avenue (formerly Johnson’s Southern Comfort). As residents of the neighborhood, we are seeking to fill what we believe is a much-needed service for the community: a safe and reliable high-quality market and sandwich shop.

While we currently have a Special Use Permit (“SUP”) in place permitting operation as a restaurant, we will need to apply for a text-only amendment to the SUP in support of the market portion of the business.

We would like to invite all of our neighbors in Union Hill to come learn more about our concept and the amendment we are proposing. Please join us at the space at 2300-2306 Jefferson Ave. on Thursday, September 12, at 7 p.m.

For those of you who are in support of the amended Special Use Permit, we will have a petition on hand for you to sign.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,
Hunter Robertson (N. 23rd St.)
Gillian Field (N. 22nd St.)
Shawn Tunstall (N. 33rd St.)

Yep, this is exciting! We’ve been talking a lot about how it must be nice in Shockoe with all the new markets popping up down there. Glad we’ll be getting our own soon.

Two asks – please carry Boar’s Head meat and please teach your employee how to slice it shaved. The Farm Fresh can’t seem to get it thinner than a McDonalds burger most of the time so we have to go to Ukrops for it.

Is the name actually going to stay a question mark? I think it could be kind of cool. Maybe call it Question Mark(et)? Could be shortened to “?et” …

YES! This is going to be AWESOME! Can you please put some furniture out on the patio so I can walk down the street, get a sandwich and drink, and then sit outside? (Much like you can do at Alamo!)

Congrats Brooke, Hunter and Shawn (Gillian, not to exclude you, but I don’t know you personally)! I’m glad after much planning, that this has come to fruition. We look forward to frequenting it.

I’m still sad that DeAndre’s restaurant didn’t work out, but will be interested in seeing what this trio has in mind. We Church Hillians will not rest until we’re the coolest neighborhood in the RVA!
