Creighton/Church Hill North planning meeting Wednesday

Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille announced a few upcoming events at the last regularly scheduled City Council meeting:

The regular 7th District community meeting will not take place. Instead, the City of Richmond, RRHA, and The Community Builders will be hosting a Planning Kickoff Meeting to begin the comprehensive effort designed to transform the Church Hill North and Creighton Court communities into “our neighborhood of choice”. The meeting is this Wednesday July 31 from 6-8PM at Woodville Elementary (2000 North 28th Street). Attendees will be able to meet the planning team leading this initiative and learn about successful planning efforts in other cities that led to implementation.

From the flyer:

The City of Richmond and Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), in partnership with The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB), are working to secure a HUD-funded Choice Neighborhoods planning grant that seeks to develop a comprehensive “Transformation Plan” for the Church Hill North neighborhood. Our program is focused on creating revitalization strategies that go beyond the physical redevelopment of neighborhoods by prioritizing quality of life initiatives such as improved education, health and wellness, workforce development, safe streets, etc. Our public-private partnership is also about creating high-quality, mixed-income housing; the grant application we recently submitted highlights the Creighton Court housing complex for future redevelopment. While these are highly competitive programs, a primary goal of the planning effort will be to successfully position the Church Hill North Choice neighborhood for up to a $30,000,000 Choice Neighborhoods implementation grant.

There will be a 7th District Community Cleanup on Saturday August 3 from 8AM-noon. Meet at 24th and Fairmount Avenue. Focus will be area between Q Street, Nine Mile Road, 25th Street, and 28th Street.

National Night Out will take place Tuesday August 6. Several civic associations will again be coming together and hosting a community gathering at 24th and Fairmount Avenue from 5-8PM. There will be a special event during the day at the Woodville ES field and the Fairfield pool from 11AM-2PM.
