Our “Hoops For Health” event will include a free 3-on-3 Double Elimination Basketball tournament for 6-8th grade boys and girls, and a Healthy Living Festival that focuses on developing healthy lifestyles.
The event encourages adopting a life-long fitness activity, while obtaining the tools to lead healthier lives.
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, located in the East End communities of Richmond and Henrico, will be hosting a “Hoops for Health” event on Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Registration for the youth teams participating in the Hoops for Health 3-on-3 tournament is free, as is access to the Healthy Living Festival. The event will be held at the Boys & Girls Club, 3701 “R” Street in Richmond and the deadline for team registration for the tournament is April 15. The Hoops for Health tournament will include 64 teams (32 boys and 32 girl’s teams) with 250 youth participating from around the metro Richmond area. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club’s health collaborator, the VCU School of Nursing, is coordinating the Healthy Living Festival that will include dozens of information booths, fun activities and healthy snacks offered by community health partners. The event encourages adopting a life-long fitness activity, while obtaining the tools to lead healthier lives. The event will also provide an opportunity for the public to visit the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, which has served the East End communities for more than 50 years.
